About Area - Kreuzberg

Kreuzberg is probably the most multi-cultural and vivid district in Berlin. The districts` inhabitants make up a colourful mixture, since the district houses – next to the many families – also all other walks of life, students and artists live door to door with the so-called DIKS, civil servants and about one third of mostly Turkish immigrants, who have shaped the districts´ character far beyond the culinary aspects.

The districts’ name derives from the 66 m high hill located in the southern part of the district. Kreuzberg has been home to many artists starting with the 60’s and with the Fall of the Wall the central location of the district in combination with the existing alternative artistical scene fostered the development of the now pulsating nightlife.

The district has numerous parks and public green space as well as many museums and theatres.
