About Area - Friedrichshain

Friedrichshain is one of the most interesting and vibrant areas in Berlin and a much asked for district. About 116.000 people live here. The central location and the many bars, clubs and stores attract a young clientele, and thus with an average age of 37.5 years, Friedrichshain is the youngest district of Berlin.

The former working class quarter, which consisted of the back-then usual dark tenement blocks, small apartments and back yards, had to be re-built due to the heavy destruction during World War II and has been successfully further redeveloped after the turnaround and Friedrichshain became loved by students and young families. The international scene, hip start-ups and the newly built “Media Spree” followed in the new Millennium. The Boxhagener Platz and the Samariterkiez with their lordly “Altbauten” are one of the most demanded areas in the entire city.
